About this book
English, we hoard our secrets to the end.'
Blake's first poetry collection combines private and public themes, on the one hand celebrating ‘domestic graces' and on the other drawing on political events such as the Falklands war, the murder of Roberto Calvi and the rise of Lech Walesa. Underlying the diverse subject matter is a fascination with secrets, explored at length in a poem called ‘The Inquisitor' which combines the atmosphere of a spy thriller with vignettes about knowledge and trust.
